Sections that your website may need

The following is a list of different sections that you may want to consider writing content for. This is just a guide, every site is going to have different needs!

About Us

This page or set of pages should describe exactly what you do, what you offer (just an overview, see descriptions of products below), and your point of difference. You may also want to write about the history of your product or company.

Contact Us

Information about getting in touch with your company, and where to find you. If you have retail outlets you might want to list them.

Products/Services

Descriptions of your products and services, specifically and in detail. If people can't find enough information here to help them make a decision they may well move on to a competitor's site that can.

Profiles of Departments, Divisions or Employees

People like to know who they are dealing with, especially if you are a service oriented company.

Recent Business Activities

Consider sections on media mentions, news about your company or industry, press releases etc.

Upcoming Business Activities

You may want somewhere to announce upcoming events or new products. If there is a lot of this you may even want to consider having a calendar that people can look at. For smaller sites you can combine this with Recent Business Activities under the heading 'News'.

References/Testimonials/Awards

Increase your credibility by showing proof of recognition from your customers and/or peers.

Client List/Portfolio

Mostly only applies to service oriented businesses. Prove your ability by showing what you've done.

Articles and Tutorials

Show you're an expert at what you do, drive traffic, increase search engine rankings

Links

If you want to have a section specifically for links, make sure that they are useful and relevant. Search engines don't like too many links that have nothing to do with your site.

Careers

Your website is a good place to advertise upcoming positions. Some companies don't advertise specific positions but use this section to allow people to express their interest in working for the company instead.
